One day at a time……..

Hi Everyone,  We’re hanging in there.  The girls are so helpful.  We’ve been able to cut down on our help with Mom, at night, because Niki has been able to do 3 nights a week.  Actually, I think Mom does better when she’s there because she HAS to be more self sufficient.  Lillian, the lady who has been helping us won’t be able to help any more after the next two weeks.  We need prayers that Mom’s cognitive mind will pert up and stay that way.  Sometimes she’s great…..really that’s MOST times.  Most simple decisions, like what step to take next in sequence of actions, have to be considered and then decided.  Most times she’s come to the correct conclusion……..but, she needs positive confirmation.  she’s aware that things are ALWAYS the way they seem to her.   This is our greatest concern and we still need very concentrated prayers about this issue.  I expect that it will be another couple of months before we really see the way this will ultimately change our lives.  At least we’re very close to living one DAY at a time, now.  The first few weeks, it was one HOUR at a time!

On a positive side, Mom is gaining strength.  She’s able to be up all day long and usually doesn’t get to tired to keep up with the world around her.  She loves being with friends and has been making it to bridge on Mondays to watch everyone play.  She feels like she keeping up with the game pretty well and she was able to keep score.  That’s a big improvement.  At first, keeping score wouldn’t have been possible.  She’s doing more in the pool and her fingers are beginning to work much more independently.  It still takes a lot of concentration.  We’ve spent time at as many social functions, as possible……Jeanne and John’s 50th celebration was wonderful and I’ll post Mom’s narrative of it, either later today or tomorrow.  Yesterday, we had dinner with Jeanne, John, Mary, Eloise, and Jean and then went to the ice cream social for the Methodist Church.  Every time we make the effort to go out, Mom is more present.

If you have time and feel like swinging by for a quick hello, Mom would love to see you.  Love to you all and have a wonderful day!
