Craig, Niki, Stefi and I played for the residents at Heidi’s Chateau(Mom’s assisted living home) for the 4th of July BBQ. If you want to be completely humbled, this is the type of environment to perform in. The lady in front of me heckled. I’d say something with a little humor and she’d spit her food into her hand so she could roll her eyes, shake her head and say, “Oh, you think you’re SOooo funny, don’t you?!” then she’d put the food back in with a huff. I took it as a challenge to win her over. I’d smile sweetly and look into her eyes sincerely as we sang, tailored to make them laugh. She did forget herself, occasionally, and start to sing along. I had a fan! YAY! After the show she motioned me over. “SOME people just LOVE to get attention and entertain…..even if there’s NOTHING entertaining about them, at all!” Head lowered, I thanked her for putting up with my indulgence and hanging in there for the entire show. She did crack a little smile and and laughed at THAT. *sigh* Daddy always said I’d be a star….:o)
