Song for Daddy, Earl Kleinsorge-Oh Daddy, I Wish You Were Here

Daddy Folding a Crane from a Dollar Bill

Another year’s gone by and Father’s Day is fast approaching.  Dad died 12 years ago on Mother’s Day weekend.  So, each year between Mother and Father’s Day I seem to be flooded with memories and longing to tell and show Daddy what has gone on.  Every time I see some odd-looking cow in Mexico grazing on acres of what looks to be nothing but sand and branches I remember the child-like excitement in his eyes when he would make me pull over and take pictures of each and every cow that was standing next to the road.  When he spent time in Mexico with me, the Mexicans treated Daddy like some sort of celebrity.  There he was in his felt cowboy hat and big boots picking up “purty rocks” on the beach, flashing red white and blue suspenders.

It didn’t come easy for Dad  in our earlier years.  But, as he got older, “I love you” came more naturally.  He would often cry when we said our so longs, and our embraces were lingering.  I was always proud to be his daughter and through my memories and desire to share with him, I’ll include him in the things I do.  Because I pass my memories on to my girls, they talk about him like they know him, though Niki was 2 when we said good-bye and Stefi wasn’t here, yet.  Daddy, I hope you like my song.

This is the most current mix of this song that will be included on the new CD.  It’s not QUITE finished.  But, it’s a good start.  I’m on guitar and Ernie Martinez in on the bass and mandolin.  I think Dad would like it.

Mary, Oh Daddy makes me want to sing it to my Dad. Just wish I could sing. He probably prefers to hear you sing it anyway. Great job. Was tickled to find a link to you via Andy Solis on face book. Hope life has treated you well
