Under the mango tree…Where else could I possibly want to be, but playing music under a mango tree…
Saturday was heavenly at the organic market in San Jose Del Cabo. John invited me to sing under the mango tree. He was so gracious and brought good equipment so everyone could hear. He gave me a feast of organic foods that I’ve enjoyed all day, today. This morning, after a trip on the sea in the kayak, watching thousands of fish swimming beneath me, you should have tasted the soft slices of mozzarella with fresh basil, dill, tomatoes, drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with fresh cracked pepper…OH MY GOD…THAT next to the sea about noon, today, made me VERY popular with the other swimmers and boaters on the beach! OK, so enough diversion and back to the mango tree.
At the market, it seemed that I was the audience and everyone else was really on stage as I was thoroughly entertained. While playing music, I drank in the warm activity around me. The cool breeze wrapped around and through the trees and the hundreds of people milling around with smiles on their faces. There were children everywhere and many of them, including some teenage lovebirds sat in front of me looking up with sincere longing eye as if they expected something important from me. Somehow, I felt that my attention to these kids confirmed something good about them that was lasting. There were booths filled with hand made jewelry, beautiful paintings, handmade furniture, home jarred jellies and pesto. There were tents with massage tables and all kinds of yummy baked goods, grills with chicken and corn on the cobs, and Stefi’s favorite tamales. And of course there were all sorts of organic veggies. There were drummers with dancers and a unicycle.
The air danced through the leaves on the mango tree above me and I was struck several times with an awe of this wonderful gift I was given to be in this special place. Thank you, God and thank you, John for letting me share my music.
I’ll be singing there again in two to three weeks, and I hope to see you there. But, if not, just close your eyes and take a deep breath. Imagine the mango tree and listen to one of my songs and you’ll be carried away to a place that will make you smile. **sigh**
