Singin’ the blues, but worth it

There’s always a little crash in Mother’s spirits after Ilene’s visit, a little post-holiday blue, I guess.  This is especially true if we don’t have some event to focus on in the future.  So, Mom’s a little blue, which rubs off on me a some, I’m afraid.  If you’re planning a trip, please let us know so I can color Mom’s day with that anticipation.  She is working hard to find reason in her existence, a purpose for her life to continue.  She and I will be visiting the hospital, this afternoon to hopefully cheer up some people who need it.   It’s hard to fit it in, sometimes.  But, I never leave the hospital wishing that I hadn’t gone.

The weekend was so nice.  Having company is such a joy for Mom and the thought of someone coming really keeps her working on the therapy that has taken her so far.  She’s always been such a show-off.  :o)  Keeping her focus on recovery after such a long time and staying positive is probably her greatest challenge.  It seems easy to remember to pray when a tragedy first happens to you.  But, keeping that spiritual focus and faith can fade if you don’t stay steadfast in what we know will serve Him and you well in the end.  Thank you for your continued prayers.

Friday evening Amy and Ilene were here with Mom for a wienie roast in our little forest fire-pit.  The scary stories and laughter added to the little forest feel of our yard.  There’s usually music and my guitar and sing-a-longs.  But the wind was whipping through the trees and we could barely keep our hot dogs in their buns!  So, Roberto (my guitar) stayed in the house.

Stefi joined Craig and I in the house to play a couple of songs before Amy and Ilene took Mom back to Heidi’s.

Saturday Amy and Ilene took Mom to Telluride for lunch.  I didn’t hear much about it to tell you except where ever they ate had great reuben sandwiches that Amy loved.  Not sure what yummy thing Mom had.  We all met at the movies and saw “Ramona and Beezus”  It was really good and made everyone cry.  We ended Amy and Ilene’s visit with dinner at “The Camp Robber” in Montrose.  Mom always thinks that she’ll like wine, but Ilene gets to drink it after Mom’s first sip.  Chocolate-bottomed crem brulee was a luscious end to the meal.  Amy and Ilene took Mom home and then headed for Grand Junction to stay near the airport for their flight the next morning.

Sunday, I picked up Mom for church at the Methodist Church and we met friends at the house for  a last-minute party, after.  Linda, Lois, Jeanie, Jean, and John all joined us for bratwurst and a fun get-together on the porch.  The weather was perfect and we ended the afternoon with a little family concert in the living room.  Stefi is playing the piano more, now and Niki is getting back to her guitar.  We’ll try to do a video sometime soon so that you can hear them.

Thanks for reading and know that we love you and appreciate you.  God Bless.  Love from Mary and Dena
