When I entered the room, a tech was doing a carotid ultrasound. They were trying to figure out where the clot may have come from that caused her stroke. Because of the surgery, they couldnt give her the normal clot-busting meds that cold decrease the damage if given right away. So, this day was a watch and waiting game. She wasn’t responding at all to the activiey of the ultrasound or to anything that anyone said to her. She was obviously paralyzed on the left and wasn’t swallowing. They hadn’t seen much for improvement in the first 6 six hours which was a bad sign. They said that most people who improve, begin to do it in those first few hours and the discussions that I had to consider, having Mom’s power of attorney began. She may have to go to a nursing home and by-pass rehab. She would possibly never come home, again……………I had a LOT to think about……………No matter the outcome or the decisions made……..Our life was about to change……….
